REGINA V C.C. [PROVINCIAL COURT, COCHRANE]

C was charged with very serious offences of 271 and 151 of the Criminal Code, charges of sexual assault and sexual interference that related to allegations of inappropriate touching of a daughter in law. The allegations arose following recent family drama with respect to custody of the complainant and government money. C promptly retained Calgary Criminal defence lawyer Curtis Mennie who immediately entered pleas of not guilty and set the charges down for trial. The allegations were also claimed to have occurred more than a year in the past long since after the complainant had moved out of the residence. Defence Lawyer Curtis Mennie met several times with C and prepared for trial, it was anticipated that the mother of the complainant would also testify on behalf of defence. Following trial C was acquitted of all charges and the trial Judge cited the cross-examination of Curtis Mennie as to why she could not convict. C received no criminal record and was found not guilty of all charges.
