REGINA V R.D. [PROVINCIAL COURT, CALGARY]
R was charged with assault causing bodily harm contrary to section 267 of the Criminal Code. The allegations arose following an altercation between R and his landlord were the landlord was assaulted with a fridge door that required him having to get stitches. The incident was captured on video. After retaining Calgary Criminal lawyer Curtis Mennie it was agreed that the focus should be on preventing R from getting a criminal record. A plea was entered on the day of trial and the matter was adjourned for R to do volunteer work in the community and take anger management courses. On the day of sentencing the Crown was asking for probation and Defence lawyer Curtis Mennie argued for a conditional discharge. R was granted a conditional discharge.
