REGINA V C.L. [PROVINCIAL COURT, CALGARY]
C was charged with multiple counts of fraud and offences under the Fair Trading Act for allegedly selling vehicles that had their odometers rolled back. Prior to retaining Calgary Defence lawyer Curtis Mennie, C was advised by the Crown they would be seeking a fine of $20,000 in total for the offences plus restitution. C retained Curtis Mennie who reviewed the disclosure and set up a meeting with the Crown. Curtis Mennie was able to show the Crown why it would not be able to prove that C had rolled back the odometers and all matters were resolved to a plea to selling a vehicle without a license to do so. C received no criminal record and was required to pay a fraction of the fine has was originally asked to pay.
